And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary [the mother] of James, and Salome, went [and] prepared spices, that they might come and anoint him. And very early in the morning, on the first [day] of the week, they came to the tomb at the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, “Who shall roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?” And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away from the tomb, for it was exceedingly great. And entering into the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a white robe; and they were struck with terror. And he said to them, “Do not be afraid. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified one. He is risen! He is not here. Behold the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘Behold, he goes before you into Galilee; there you shall see him, as he said to you.’” And when they heard [this], they went out and fled from the tomb, for they were seized with dread; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
